How WE MIGHT WORK TOGETHER

I believe that growth and change arise from understanding and connection, so I focus on creating a space to explore how things are with you right now, how they came to be this way, and how you would like them to be different. We won’t be trying to fix you because you are not broken. Instead, we will be working on a joint understanding of you and your life. I want you to feel truly heard and seen for who you are.

In my experience, change flows quite naturally from this sort of deep understanding. That process can be helped along by some practical tools and practices. We might use mindfulness practices, breathing and grounding to help you tune into your experience and soothe your nervous system. We might incorporate writing or art or music into our work to help you make sense of, express and process your experiences. I’m probably going to recommend books to you, and these are as likely to be novels as more explicitly therapy-oriented books. There will probably be poems and cartoons. Everything I offer is an invitation; you are always free to decline what doesn’t resonate and suggest other ideas that I might not have thought of.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I see these as frameworks for understanding how people are shaped by their experiences and how change might happen, and sources for the more practical techniques that we might use.
